Several towns around the nation have seen protests of libraries' stocking the
"Harry Potter" books. One school board in Oklahoma was asked this week to ban
the series, but voted to keep the books on its shelves.
Guymon school board members voted Monday to retain the books after a hearing
requested by a parent who claimed the books about a young wizard glamorize
witchcraft.
"(The board) felt it is primarily a parental issue so each parent should make
the decision on whether they want their children to read that," Superintendent
Bob Neal said.
Harry Potter Coins Go On Sale New
coins celebrating the release of Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets have
gone on sale.
The coins, made by Pobjoy Mint, will only be legal tender on the Isle Of Man.
Pobjoy released special coins last year to commemorate the film version of Harry
Potter And The Philosopher's Stone.
The coin designs depict six favourite scenes from the new film. They include:
Dobby visits Harry in the Hospital Wing, Harry and Ron return to The Burrow, and
Harry and Ron meet Aragog in the Forbidden Forest.
I havent been doing that much updating
lately but my friend Eldir (nickname) has a great new site and I throughly
recommend you go have a look!:
And for today's new news! :
No book this year!
Harry Potter has cast a
spell over the recent fortunes of Bloomsbury but, for the first time in five
years, Britain’s last remaining stock market-listed book publisher is without a
new instalment of the boy wizard’s adventures.
Its chief executive Nigel Newton yesterday confirmed that the fifth of JK
Rowling’s phenomenally successful books – Harry Potter and the Order of the
Phoenix –would not appear before the end of the year.
“Joanne is happily writing away, but the new Harry Potter will not form part of
our 2002 financial year,” he said. “The publication date of the fifth book will
be announced after it has been delivered.” Although there is no suggestion that
Rowling will not complete her seven-book deal, the absence of Bloomsbury’s
annual banker has unnerved some investors.
Always Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola will launch a consumer
promotion tied to the Nov. 15 release of Warner Bros. "Harry Potter and the
Chamber of Secrets" while also continuing its Reading is Fundamental (RIF)
literacy efforts.
The "Catch the Golden Snitch and Win" promotion, to run Oct. 14-Nov. 22, will
center around collectible game cards enclosed in multi-packs of Coca-Cola
Classic and caffeine free Coca-Cola. Consumers who find the Golden Snitch (an
integral part of Potter's favorite game Quidditch) card can win a trip to London
as well as receive $5 movie certificates.
Intervew with HP Games wizard
TV Week has a short interview
with Derek Proud, who is leading the development of Harry Potter and the Chamber
of Secrets video games in the UK.
How does it feel to be working on a character so precious to kids?
"It's a big challenge, but we're confident we're making games that fans of all
ages will love."
How much involvement does JK Rowling have with the games?
"She has final approval on all that we do, and has also given us lots of extra
fiction that is not in the books or the films."
Is Quidditch included?
"We have an entire team working on the Quidditch aspect of the game! We have
refined the Seeker experience to be much more dynamic and fun."
The game is coming out on seven different platforms. Will they all be out at
once?
"Yes, they will all be released with the film, which is out on November 28."
Lego fans young and old helped construct the largest Lego model of Harry
Potter character, Hargrid, at the Natick Mall this weekend. Children used
mallets and hammered into place the small Lego pieces making 2-by-4-inch modular
bricks to give to master builders Pete Donner and Erik Varszegi.
Donner and Varszegi, who work for Lego Systems Inc., America's division of Lego
Company based in Enfield, Conn., used more than 2,500 bricks of brown, yellow,
black, red and gray built by children to create the larger-than-life image of
Harry Potter's friend. Some of brick builders were longtime members of the Lego
Club, while others were out shopping with their parents and wanted to join the
fun.
And thats it for now!

Konichiwa!
I hope your all keeping well. For all
you people on holidays, give me an email and tell me what you've been doing. I
went to a theme park yesterday.
I found this really good Harry Potter
RGP site:
You can send me an OWL on that site (I
go by the name of whittyb)
And for todays news:
'Harry Potter' expected to
sell big
EA's hit machine will turn out
a number of titles during the season, including new games in the "Harry Potter"
and "Lord of the Rings" franchises as well as an online version of the
best-selling PC game of all time, "The Sims."
But also EA was aware that a hit, in the end, is completely dependent on the
whims of the audience: "This is no different than a Broadway play or Hollywood."
Also the Harry Potter section has been
updated with some more Harry Potter movie two pictures and i've got some really
funny parody posters in the Harry Potter section to (for people who dont and do
like Harry Potter!)
And! Ive updated the Tolkiens Picture
Gallery with some parody pictures of LOTR!
On CoE someone posted about this site
that tells you what kind of Lord Of The Rings Fan you are I got:
SOME of Harry Potter's magic could be coming to North Wales.
The Daily Post has discovered that location manager for the new block-buster The
Prisoner of Azkaban has spent a week in Snowdonia to check on possible set
venues.
...Jayne Wainwright, of the Tyn-y-Coed Hotel, Capel Curig, which has played host
to many of the Tomb Raider 2 production team currently in North Wales said they
had talked freely in the bar about returning to Snowdonia in January to work on
the film adaptation of JK Rowling's third best-selling book.
Last night, a Warner Brothers spokesman refused to confirm or deny the Snowdonia
location.
The web page isn't in English, but you can download the trailer simply by
scrolling down to where it says DOWNLOAD and clicking on either the low or
hi-res version. After that i small widow that says "zaradit se do fonty" will
appear..right click on it and select "save target as" to start download. May
take a little time to get started because the servers can get kinda full. enjoy.
NEW YORK (AP) -- As the American Library
Association marks its 21st annual "Banned Books Week," the organization is
running low on actual bans to report.
...
The ALA reported 448 challenges in 2001, compared to more than 900 in 1981. Krug
says for every complaint the ALA learns about, there are likely four or five
others.
The books most often criticized have varied little in recent years. The "Harry
Potter" series, which some Christians have attacked for its themes of wizardry
and magic, tops this year's list. Also included are such longtime targets as
J.D. Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye" and John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men,"
both cited for "offensive language," and Maya Angelou's "I Know Why the Caged
Bird Sings," for language, racism and sexual content.
"Asylum seekers" and "sex and shopping" are among phrases that have entered
the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary for the first time, along with the word
"Jedi" from the Star Wars films.
The first new edition in nearly a decade of the short version of the English
language guide appears today with 3,500 new entries.
Tony Blair is immortalised with "Blairism" and "New Labour", while "Millennium
Dome" is also featured.
...There are also 500 new quotations. Among the writers whose literary citations
appear for the first time are Tom Clancy and Nick Hornby, Helen Fielding and J K
Rowling, creator of Harry Potter.
Although other new words from science fiction have made it - such as "Klingon",
evil aliens in Star Trek, and "Tardis", Doctor Who's spaceship - words coined
for the Harry Potter books are still too new to appear.
...But "muggle" - her made-up word for people who are not wizards - is still
listed only as an early 20th century American slang term for a marijuana
cigarette.
Oh well got to go!
For me tomorrow are holidays!

Hello everyone, hope your all well!
I've added the movie script for The Fellowship Of the Ring which is on the
navigation on the right.
And here's some news:
The
official site
of LOTR has added some unseen Clips that weren't in the movie so check it
out now!
A New CoS (Harry Potter and the Chamber Of sectrets) commercial shown last
night!
I was recording the premiere of "Smallville" just in case they showed another
HPCoS commercial, and the did! It was short, and fast, but they showed a bit of
Knockturn Alley. They also showed the Basilisk, and it looked so cool!! Much
better than that picture awhile ago. Way cooler! And it showed that new picture
that's just recently been going around, that they thought was Myrtle. It looked
like harry to me, and he was in front of a mirror, and a creepy looking hand
grab his arm. They showed another shot of Harry, and Malfoy playing Quidditch.
Ron and Harry in the Ford Anglia flying in front of the Hogwarts Express. The
revolving Gold Eagle statue leading to a door. Then Harry in Knockturn Alley
with some creepy people. The doors to the Slytherin Common Room opening. Harry
with Riddle's diary glowing. Harry disappearing into the diary. The part with
Harry, and Malfoy during the match. Ron and Harry in Aragog's Lair. Them
standing with Fang, while the Anglia comes in, scaring away the spiders. Harry
getting shot at during the Dueling Club, and doing that summersault thing. Then
to the Basilisk looking at Harry through the cage thing. It looked like it's
eyes were already poked, cause they were all red.(so cool!) Next to the "Scarred
Potter?", "You Wish" scene with Harry and Malfoy at the Dueling Club. Snape
firing in the Dueling Club (at Lockhart I guess). Then Malfoy rolling over and
over in the air, at the club (I guess Harry hit him). To the Whomping Willow
smashing the Anglia, then Slythering with the Quaffle. Ha!
rry hanging out of the Anglia. The part where the creepy hand grabs Harry at the
mirror. Hermione and the Pixies, Nevile with the Pixies (holding him by his
ears). Harry raising the sword, then to the screen with Harry Potter and the
Chamber of Secrets. And last at the Stairs scene, where they're all changing.
I hope that's a new commercial, it was the first time i've ever seen it. I
wanted to see the one with Ron burping up slugs though. I'll probably record all
season premieres on the WB, to see if I can catch anymore.
Hope that's useful.
Well thats all the news for now also I thought I would say that where I am
its Holidays in one more day so the site should be updated heaps!
post by <whittyb> on <25.9.02>
Just a update on the world around me.
Lately there hasn't been much Lord Of The Rings news around, so this is all
Harry Potter news.
Now the site has been changed, because Hobbit Day is over *sob*. But I have
added some quotes into the Harry Potter section. But no Snape quotes sorry
Eldir!
I found this really good Harry Potter RPG, Its well worth a look!:
...Griptonite just finished a "Harry Potter" game that must be on the shelves
in time for the release of the second movie in November. And with millions of
kids clamoring for all things Harry, deadlines become increasingly important.
It's stressful and can absorb your life for a couple of weeks," Connors said.
"But then, all of a sudden, it's out of your hands and that's hard too."
Griptonite, like many gaming companies, works exclusively on game production and
has nothing to do with marketing or manufacturing.
But it has to do some marketing of its own to win over publishers.
Every gaming company would jump (A button, Up key) at the chance to design
"Harry Potter" games. To seal that deal, Griptonite staff members dressed up as
various characters out of the J.K. Rowling novels when they sold their idea to
the publisher. Now, the studio is hard at work on a "Lord of the Rings" game.
So much news to tell! Also the press have told that
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (the 5th book) will be released at
Christmas (only a rumor from the press).

Once again Happy Hobbit day! Hope you enjoy your day.
Lizo: There have been quite a few rumours about when book five will be out -
when do you think it'll be ready?
JK: There's a lot of book done - that's all I want to say because if I give a
date and then I pass it everyone will be upset. I will say that I have a
beginning, a middle and an end - you could read it all the way through and I
know a lot of Harry Potter fans will say just give it to us but I'm
perfectionist and I want a bit more time to tweak. I really am getting there and
I have to laugh when I read the bits about writers block because I don't think
I've ever been blocked in my life! I'm loving the writing and now the revising
and I'm getting on really well.
Lizo: Is the book going to be as long as book four was?
JK: Yes, it is looking that way - it's already passed Azkaban, so I think yes,
we are looking at Goblet of Fire length.
Lizo: Finally, what's your message to children who've been waiting for the next
book for a two and half years?
JK: It's coming and it's a lot nearer than you'd think if you read some
newspapers - just trust me.
There's more at the web site, so check it out!
